About us

1 Oct 2011: Results have been obtained for a second member who is supposed from traditional research to have descended from Johann Georg Reigell (1718-1798) of Nockamizon Twp., Buck Co., Pennsylvania. However, the results for these two members do not match.

30 Mar 2011: Results have been obtained for a new member, who is supposed from traditional research to have descended from Mattheis Riegell of Rheinland-Pfalz. Those results match within two markers in 25 those of the two members supposed to have also descended from him, thus supporting the conclusion that likely all three descend from him.

22 Aug 2010: The results of tests have been received for a total of nine members. The first matches have been found among members, one of them between descendants of Simon Riegel of Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, and the other between two of the four supposed descendants of Mattheis Riegell of Rheinland-Pfalz.

4 Jun 2010: The results of tests for six members have now been received. They confirm the expectation that several families with the Riegel surname (or variations) are indeed unrelated. But the surprising result is that tests for three members believed to be descended from Mattheis Riegell of Rheinland-Pfalz do not in fact share a common paternal ancestor. Further research will be required to fully understand this surprising result.

18 Mar 2010: The results of the first two tests have been received, and have apparently confirmed what researchers had suspected based on traditional research: the families of Mattheis Riegell of Rheinland-Pfalz, and Simon Riegel of Lancaster Co. have no apparent connection.
