About us
The purpose of this project is twofold:
1. To determine whether all people with variants of the Riegel surname are members of the known families - those of Mattheis Riehell (AKA Riegell) of Rheinland-Pfalz, and Simon Riegel of Lancaster Co. - or whether there are un-related families with these surnames.
2. To see whether those who have been unable to trace their ancestry to an immigrant can obtain clues can find from DNA results indicating linkage to a specific branch of these families, and thus help focus traditional genealogical research more productively.
To accomplish these objectives we will need to obtain Y-DNA test results for people known to be descendants of Mattheis and Simon as well as those who are seeking more information about their ancestors.
