McAnally DNA Lineage #I

Charles McAnally b. 1685 Scotland

This lineage has sufficient participants to demonstrate with certainty the family Modal DNA signature. The Memoirs of David Rice McAnally, have been validated inasmuch as Charles b 1731 is proven by DNA to be a brother of John b abt. 1725. Anyone hoping prove or disprove descendancy from Elijah b1767 should use a 67-marker test.

Blue = have Modal DNA (exactly the same markers as Charles 1685)

Black = are currently uncertain for some markers

Brown = (Elijah's branch) has "24" on marker 481

Orange = has "38" on marker CDYb & "10" on Marker 460

Red = has "39" on Marker CDYa

Violet = a paternal event is somewhere in the line

Green = has "13" on 391, "15" on 464b & "39" on CDYa

The probable relationship to the group of McAnally/McAnnallys is as follows: Common ancestor Unknown McAnelly/McAnally/McAnnally b. ca 1600 Scotland ------Charles McAnally b.1685 Scotland -----------John McAnelly b.1762 Ireland. In the book by Gaylon McAnelly about the McAnelly lineage he infers the probable migration from Scotland to Ireland and gives some guidance for further research to connect those lines. Finding that connection may get entangled in a great number other near DNA matches. It appears we McAnallys are a 35 /37 modal match to the very common DNA signature of prolific Niall Noigiallach, meaning we are likely his descendants and share his history. Read about him at http://www.familytreedna.com/matchnialltest.html .

Kit 137652 is from Scotland.

His line may have originated in Scotland went to Ireland and returned to Scotland. He appears to be related to the above family, albiet more distantly, and interestingly his "12" on marker 439 seems to tie us more closely to Niall Noigallach.

Unassigned McAnally DNA Lineages

Kit # 18733 (12)

Linage; Charles and Elizabeth Utley McAnally m. January 18, 1847 in Roan Co., TN a son of this marriage was William. Charles died early and Elizabeth married John Rowden. William her son by Charles took the name of his stepfather John Rowden.

Test Results: 12-marker test established Charles' haplogroup as R1b which is one of the most common groups. This means that he is genetically very close to many individuals with various surnames. As an example he matches nine individuals exactly 12/12 and 128 individuals with one marker off. No significant matches until upgraded.

Kit #37627 (25)

Lineage: Unknown:

Matches: 23/25 with various surnames not McNally or variants. Since the Haplogroup is projected to be R1b there are no matches of significance.

Kit N6583 (12)

Lineage: None given

Matches: R1b and many matches to various surnames plus matches to many of the McAnally kits, not significant until upgraded to 37 markers.
