About us

Mission Statement - To be able to map the wider Langton family DNA by the Octocentenary of Magna Carta 2015

LANGTON to match each Langton sequence with a Langton village

LENTON We think this is just a matter of pronounciation and that Lenton and Langton are essentially the same name just as Lenton Lincolnshire was previously called Langton, it is the same place. So some Lentons are also Langtons but some Lentons may come from Lenton Nottinghamshire which has an entirely different derivation from the River Lene. So we are expecting at least two groups of Lentons. This one is very tricky, only your DNA can sort it out. More Information on the Lost Langtons site.

ANGONE / ANGON The endings of surnames get changed a lot less so the beginning. These names occur in Texas where the Langton name has disappeared. So is this name Mexican or is it a drift from Langton

GLANTON There is a village in Northumberland England called Glanton which is nothing to do with Langton and you may derive from there. What we are particularly interested in is if you are a Glanton with an Irish background. In Ireland in the south we believe Glanton derives from Langton, specifically from the descendants of Bishop Walter Langton. The Langtons were one of the tribes of Kilkenny. We want to clarify if irish Glanton and Irish Langton match

LANTON occurs occasionally in England but more often in Cork in Ireland. Is Irish Lanton the same as Irish Langton?

LINTON Linton is a seperate surname from Langton but in Roxburgh, Selkirk and Peebles on the Scottish borders it looks like a drift from Langton; not that we are entirely clear which group of Langtons

LANSDON This name may derive from Lansdown near Bath in England but there are some problems with the idea. Perhaps it derives from Langton. This is one for DNA to sort out.

LANGSTAFF LANGSTAFFE LONGSTAFF LONGSTAFFE. I used to think that these names derived from places called Langtoft but they don't. It has been suggested that it derives from a staff of office but the name only occurs in the same areas as LANGTON. Make sure your DNA sees the light of day, put it on this site and try and get a match.

LANGHORNE LANGHORN LONGHORN LONGHORNE LANGTHORN LONGTHORN LONGTHORNE LANGTHORNE These names occur in the areas of england settled by the vikings. In Yorkshire they look like a drift from Langton. Also in the English Lake DIsstrict in North West England.

LANDON LANDEN This name occurs in the south and West Midlands in England and massively in the USA. Some are Langtons some are not. Let's try and get in sorted

LONGTON We think this is just a matter of pronounciation and Longton derives from Longton formerly Langton in Lancashire. Only one way to find out

LANGSTONE LANGSTON These names derive from Langton but don't assume that because you are a Langston in USA that you derive from Langstons in England. You are just as likely to derive from Langtons in England. the Langstons in england do of course derive from Langtons.

LANGONE LANCKTON LANCTON LANGTHONE and possibly LUNNON you probably started off life as Langton. Now you can find out.

LONGSDON LANGSDON LONGSDEN LANGSDEN LOGSDON LOGSDEN These names occur in Derbyshire and Hertfordshire in England. They may be nothing to do with Langton but we would really like to find out

LANGDON is really the same name from LANGTON arising from south west England. we suspect some Langdons have drifted from Langton. We'd like to find out.
