Welcome all Bovitz, Bavec, and Bavetz families!
This project began on 11 February 2009 with two participants: one from the United States, and one from Slovenia.
Initially, with these first two tests, we are interested in discovering more about the ancestors of four Bavec brothers who, around 1900, came to the United States from Slovenia.
How do these four brothers relate to Bovitzes, Bavecs, and Bavetzes who still live in Slovenia?
Unfortunately, the paper trail ends around 1777, in Slovenia, for the ancestors of Frank, Anton, John, and Aloysius Bavec. When these brothers arrived in the States, the Bavec surname was changed to Bovitz.
Fortunately, genetic genealogy is affordable, highly-informative, and easily-accessible.
The ancestors of these four brothers is just the starting point. Ultimately, we wish to learn how the Bovitzes and Bavecs of the United States, Slovenia, and other countries are related.
From where originally were the Bavecs of Slovenia? What was the migration path of the Bovitz and Bavec ancestors?
There are many exciting questions to answer and DNA testing can help solve our genealogical mysteries.
