The goal of this project is to identify the different family groups who adopted the surname of Bembow, Benbow, or variations, and to help others to identify their genetic cousins, in the hopes that it will assist their research.

Another goal has been to find additional evidence to link the Benbow brothers who immigrated to the American colonies in 1718 to their roots in Wales. The results of the testing to date link them to another Benbow line from Montgomeryshire, Wales, and also to a line from Herefordshire in England - a county which is just east of Montgomeryshire.  Although some believe that the Welsh group moved into Montgomeryshire from Shropshire, so far we have not found as close a link to Shropshire as we have found to Herefordshire.
