On going research indicates that the surname Beatty, including the various spellings, is can be divided into two primary groupings. 

Group one appears to be descendant of a man (affectionately called Adam) living between 1350 and 1600.  Numerous members of this group have been able to trace and confirm, through traditional genealogical research, their linages back to southwest Scotland with the earliest data being in the late 1500's. 

The second group is much older with estimates going back to about 2100 BC and may be the original line.
