We encourage males with surnames in the BOGEL "family" to join in this project and help untangle some of our roots. There are many alternate spellings to consider. The BOGEL / BOEGEL / BöGEL spellings are usually of German origin as far as paper genealogy research has shown, while the BOGLE spelling is more often seen in Scottish and Irish families.

Females, of course may also participate, but they will have to enlist a male relative in the direct line for the Y-DNA sample.

We also encourage Females and Males to test the mitochondrial DNA, even though it does not connect to the Surname study because names changed with each marriage. The mt-dna is inherited by children of both sexes, but is only passed on to the next generation by the females.

We will include mtdna results on our project page if desired.
