We are exploring the genetic origins of those with the surname O'Hourihane, O'Horgan, and O'Horan and O'Hanrahan. We are seeking men with these names or variants who have Y tested. These surnames (and variations) may have gotten confused with or substituted for each other in past times. O'Horgan seems to have been in Co. Cork and Kerry, O'Hanrahan is perhaps from Kilkenny and Tipperary, and O'Horan was from around Galway. Researchers are not sure whether Hourihane in west Cork had local (Corca Laidhe) origins, perhaps stemming from Horan, or if perhaps the original Hourihanes came from Co Clare to spawn the west Cork Hourihanes. The heraldry of Hourihan, Hanrahan, and Horgan are practically identical. The O'Hourihane, Hor(ri)gan, Han(d)rahan, and Horan DNA Project pages are hosted on Rootsweb. Your test kit and pedigree are tagged by your kit number and your private information is kept confidential. The project is focused on Y-DNA testing. Any analysis, research assistance, and funding for the project is directed towards Y-DNA.
