The Account Information page allows you to do the following:

  • Contact Information tab – Enter, edit, and view your contact (and profile) information and add your profile picture.
  • Change Password tab – Change your password.
  • Beneficiary tab – Enter, edit, and view your beneficiary information.

Where is my Account Information page?

To access your Account Information page:

  1. Sign in to your myFTDNA account.
  2. In the upper-right corner of the page, click on your name/kit number, and click My Profile from the drop-down menu. The Account Information page is displayed.

    On your myFTDNA dashboard, in the Your Account section on the left side of the page, click on the Manage Personal Information link.

Contact Information

The information on this page is provided so that FamilyTreeDNA can contact you. If you do not provide any Contact Information, FTDNA will be unable to reach you or assist you in accessing your account, which may affect test processing.

If you have signed the Release Form, your genetic matches will be able to see your Match Profile. To edit which matches are able to view your Match Profile, go to your Privacy & Sharing page.

My Contact Information

Your Contact Information page contains the following fields:

  • Prefix – (Optional) Enter a prefix for your name such as Miss or Mr.
  • First Name – This is your first or given name.
  • Middle Name – (Optional) This is your middle name, if you have one.*
  • Last Name – This is your surname or family name.*
  • Suffix – (Optional) If you have one, this is the suffix for your surname, e.g., Sr., Jr., etc.
  • Address – This is your current mailing address (street address).
  • City – This is the city or town in which you currently live.
  • State – If you live in the US, this is the state in which you live.
  • Zip – If you live in the US, this is your postal ZIP code.
  • Country – This is the country in which you live.
  • Phone – This is your current phone number.
  • Fax – This is your fax number.
  • Email Address(es) – These are the email addresses on your account. If you have more than one, click the check box next to the one you want to set as your primary email address. This email will be displayed with your contact information for your matches to see. Additionally, match notifications etc. will be sent to this address.

*Note: For genealogical purposes, it is important for females to include their maiden name. Please add your maiden name instead of your middle name in the Middle Name field, or include your maiden name in the Last Name field.

How do I update my contact information?

To update your contact information:

  1. Access your Account Information page.
  2. Click the Contact Information tab. The Contact Information page is displayed.
  3. Update your contact information as needed.
  4. In the lower-left corner, click Save.
How do I update my mailing address?
To update your mailing address:

  1. Access your Account Information page.
  2. Click the Contact Information tab. The Contact Information page is displayed.
  3. Update your mailing address as needed.
  4. In the lower-left corner, click Save.
How do I update the email address that receives account notifications?
To update your primary email address:

  1. Access your Account Information page.
  2. Click the Contact Information tab. The Contact Information page is displayed.
  3. In the Email Address(es) fields, add or update your email address(es) as necessary.
  4. In the lower-left corner, click Save.

Important: If you have more than one email address entered for your information, make sure to select the check box to the left of the email address that you want to use as your primary email. 

Note: When you are signed in as a Group Administrator, you cannot edit the Email Address(es) field.

How do I upload my profile picture?

To upload your profile picture:

  1. Access your Account Information page.
  2. Click the Contact Information tab. The Contact Information page is displayed.
  3. In the Profile Photo section, click the Upload button, and follow the instructions on the page.

Change Password

The Change Password page is where you can change your current password.

To change your password:

  1. Access your Contact Information page, and click the Change Password tab.
    OR
    On your myFTDNA dashboard, in the Your Account section on the left side of the page, click on the Change Password link at the bottom of your profile.

    The Change Password page is displayed.

  2. In the Old Password field, enter your current password.
  3. In the New Password field, enter a new password between 5 to 20 characters in length. The password is not case sensitive and can be any combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.
  4. In the Re-Enter New Password field, enter your new password a second time.
  5. Click Update. Your password is updated.

Beneficiary Information

The Beneficiary Information page is where you can enter and update the information of your kit’s beneficiary. The beneficiary is the person who will be granted control of your myFTDNA account, your DNA test results, and any stored DNA sample in the event of your death. After they contact us, they will gain complete control of the kit and will be authorized to order additional tests with any DNA that may remain in stock.

How do I add my beneficiary information?

To add our beneficiary information:

  1.  Access your Contact Information page.
  2. Click the Beneficiary Information tab. The Beneficiary Information page is displayed.
  3. In the Name field, enter your beneficiary’s name.
  4. In the Phone field, enter your beneficiary’s phone number.
  5. In the Email field, enter your beneficiary’s email address.
  6. Click Save
How do I print a hardcopy of my beneficiary information?

Once you have saved your beneficiary’s information, you can print a hardcopy form to include in your will or with your other legal documents.

To do this, click the Printable Form link next to the Save button to print a form. Verify your information, print it, and have it notarized.

Note: The printable form uses the information on your Contact Information page. Make sure to review and update your contact information if needed before printing the form.
