I had given up hope on on finding relatives of my grandfather,George Duncan Westerlundb. (Westerland).He was from a Swedish grandfather (Charles F Westerlund) who married a South Carolinan woman, Martha Randal. They had a son- James Coapes Westerlund. James married a woman in South Carolina whose family was from Scotland (b. 1863 Catherine Alice Duncan).
Recently,Roy Weserlund (Rock Hill, South Carolina) read my (now) four year old message about this relative. Roy contacted me and we really are cousins. Most importantly, we share the same family myth about a castaway named Fessenfelt or Westerfelt. This person supposedly changed his name to Westerlund- early 1800's. So we are on a mission to solve this mystery and to look for more relatives.
