About us

The goal of the North Carolina Early 1700's DNA Project is to use traditional genealogy, combined with molecular biology, i.e. DNA analysis, to try and learn more about the identies and histories of the pioneer families who first settled the area of North Carolina.

Here are some questions that the North Carolina Early 1700's Project will be considering:

1. Can we determine a specific list of surnames of these pioneer families?
2. What were the cultural and geographic origins of the families of those early settlers? We know what the text books tell us, but who were they really? What is their deep ancestry?
3. Did these early settlers immigrate into North Carolina in extended family groups, or even as entire villages out of the “Old Country”?
4. Where did the descendants of these early settlers end up? Did they travel across the America as extended family units?
