My immigrant ancestor, Noel Legault dit Deslaurier, arrived in Quebec ca. 1695. He came from Irvillac, Finistere (Bretagne), France according to his marriage record. We visited France and found 2 ancient houses with the name "Legav" engraved in stone over the doors. Unfortunately, the church records for Noel's time are not available. After spending a few years contacting all the Legaults in France, I was able to build 2 large French Legault family trees. The paper trail in France ended and I could not find a connection between Quebec and France.
