About us

This YDNA project narrowly focuses on the E-FT141964 YDNA haplogroup (downstream of E-M35 >> E-V13 >> E-CTS5856) for anyone who is POSITIVE for E-FT141964 and its sub-branches (current possible surnames are E-M35/E-V13/E-CTS5856 Ferguson, Gardner, Johnson, Kaufmann, Waddell, Wall, and Williams). Other current E-FT141964 sub-branches are E-FT366934 (Johnson), E-FT367056 (Johnson), E-FTB68112 (Waddell), and E-FTE70811 (Williams). E-FT141964 lineages were in colonial North Carolina and Virginia in the 1700s and 1600s.
According to the FamilyTreeDNA Discover Tool (https://discover.familytreedna.com/y-dna/E-FT141964/), the man who is the MRCA of the E-FT141964 line most likely was born between 1575 and 1798, with a MEAN of 1702 at 95% CI (Confidence Interval; as of 05 Feb 2024). However, by combining YDNA and genealogical data, the upper date range can be reasonably narrowed to no later than around 1690, meaning a refined date range of around 1575 to 1690. If this range is even somewhat accurate, then this MRCA would also perhaps have been born in the British American Colonies.
To determine if someone is in E-FT141964 or one of its sub-branches requires a BigY test. If you have already taken the y37 or y111 (or one of the lesser YDNA tests) AND are E-M35, E-V13, or E-CTS5856, AND you believe that you may belong to E-FT141964 or one of its sub-branches, join this project, and upgrade to the BigY test.
E-FT141964 Haplogroup Path
*E-M35 (possible YDNA result) > E-V68 > E-M78 > E-PF2179 > E-Z1919 > E-L618 > E-CTS1975 > *E-V13 (possible YDNA result) > E-CTS8814 > *E-CTS5856 (possible FF SNP result) > E-BY4877 > E-BY3880 > E-Y19509 > E-Y66613 > E-BY30351 > E-BY143206 > *E-FT141964 (possible BigY result or downstream of it)
*Results from kits that have taken a y37, y111, BigY, or Family Finder tests.
UPDATE - 14 Dec 2023
Other relevant SNPs to our project tested for with the Family Finder SNP Update are CTS5856 and CTS9761 (CTS9761 is an equivalent of CTS5856). E-CTS5856 is downstream of E-M35 >> E-V13. Other relevant atDNA SNPs may be added once atDNA transfers are updated sometime next year.

===================================
The E-FT141964 project has a couple of simple requirements for joining the project.
1. YDNA E-FT141964 and Downstream Paternal Lines
First, this project is specifically for kits that are already proven (through YDNA testing) or think they may be part of the E-FT141964 or downstream paternal lines.
If a kit owner or manager thinks a kit might be part of this E-FT141964 paternal line, then this project is for that kit.
If a kit has already taken a low-level YDNA test like the y37 or y111, and that kit is E-M35, E-V13, or E-CTS5856, AND that kit YDNA matches other kits in this project, then this project is for that kit.
If a kit has already taken a BigY-700 and has already been assigned E-FT141964, or haplogroups downstream of it, then this project is for that kit as well.
This project is not just for YDNA kits. Please join any autosomal kits (FTDNA Family Finder or atDNA transfers from other DNA testing services) that match the requirements above. If you descend from any of these E-FT141964 paternal lines, please join your atDNA kit to our project as well so we can research together.
Of course, we will allow other kits to join the project if they are beneficial to the project in general or to help others that just need assistance.
2. Access to Kit Data
Secondly, the kit owner or manager must grant the project admins at least "Limited" access to their kit. This allows the project admins to assist and research the kit with you. We additionally recommend "Advanced" access, allowing the project admins to better compare kits to each other. The kit owner/manager can update the kit's access settings from the kit's Account Settings > Project Preferences > "pencil" icon on right > set "Access" to "Limited" or "Advanced".
Additionally, if the project has partially or fully funded a kit's YDNA or Family Finder test (or any other DNA products or services), the kit owner/manager agrees to these terms:
  1. The kit owner/manager agrees to allow "Advanced" access and direct login access to the kit in perpetuity. Additionally, the kit owner/manager agrees that if the PW is updated on the kit account, to share the updated PW with the project admins.
  2. The kit owner/manager agrees to allow the project to purchase additional DNA products and/or services for the kit as deemed necessary by the project admins.
  3. The kit owner/manager agrees to never delete the kit account or data, or request the deletion of the kit account or data.
  4. The kit owner/manager consents that this agreement extends to anyone the kit is transferred to in the future and the new kit owner/manager must agree to these terms as well.
If there are any questions, please let me know.
I look forward to researching our E-FT141964 lines together.
Best regards,
Arthur Waddell.....
