About us
In an effort to disseminate accurate documented Carter Family historical and genealogical information, The Carter Society Inc., a non-profit heritage organization, has implemented the Carter Society Y-DNA Project. Our Y-DNA Project will strive to establish and maintain the most likely Y-DNA of several Carter Patriots of Colonial Virginia. Currently our Carter Patriots are: Thomas Carter I and John Carter I of Lancaster County, Willian Carter I of Surry County, Thomas Carter I of Isle of Wight County and Giles Carter I of Henrico County. Participants in this Y-DNA Project are restricted to but not limited to members of the Carter Society that are males with the Carter surname and males with the Carter Surname that are relatives of our female members. Non-member participants must have a Carter surname and a proven direct male lineage back to one of our Carter Patriots. Non-member participants are encouraged to join The Carter Society. Membership information is available on our website at www.cartersociety.org.
