About us
The Waccamaw DNA Project begun in 2007 and is open to anyone who believes they have genetic ties to, or believes they are a descendant of the Waccamaw Indians.
Anyone who shares a common surname that is associated with the tribe, and/or believes they have native american ancestry associated with other tribes (Tuscarora, Nottoway, Saponi, Lumbie, Peedee etc) that may have genetic cousins to the Waccamaw are encouraged to join.
The main purpose of the project is to establish a genetic profile of the Waccamaw Indian people, document their history and assist family historians and native american researchers to trace their ancestry and find common cousins related by blood ties.
The US censes identifies the surnames listed below as prominent Waccamaw family names. However, this list is not all inclusive.
Keep in mind that these names also have variant spellings.
