About us

Updated 20 Nov 2022 To help find family connections for the CALDWELLs of all spelling and variations. By joining the group you agree to provide the project with 3 things. 1) The surname of the person being tested. 2) The name, date and place of birth of the oldest researched male ancestor of your male patrilineal line and the oldest researched female ancestor of your matrilineal line. 3) Permission to publish the DNA results and the names, dates and places of birth of the oldest known patrilineal or matrilineal ancestor. This DNA project is open to anyone and everyone with a CALDWELL connection. And that includes the many variants of the name including: CALDWELL, CAULDWELL, COLDWELL, COLWELL, COLWILL, CULWELL, and so on. All participants are requested to post their CALDWELL pedigree on the Activity Feed page using the following format example: 1. Thomas CALDWELL born c1788 ? Ireland, died 7 Aug 1853 St Louis, Missouri 2. Richard CALDWELL born Mar 1836, Antrim, died 13 Apr 1906 Kansas 3. Grandfather (i.e. no birth info <100 years ago, no marriage info <75, and no death info <50) 4. Father 5. Yourself (initials, FTDNA Kit number 123456, gedmatch F567890, email address, link to your online family tree) The project has several aims including: 1) the grouping of people together who have similar genetic signatures in order to identify people who share a common CALDWELL ancestor within the past 1000 years or so (since the surname first emerged). This will help individuals focus their own personal research. 2) the identification of the ancestral origins of the different genetic groups identified (e.g. Irish vs Scottish vs English). 3) the study of the evolution of the surname over time and the relationship of the different surname variants (if any) to each other. Women are especially welcome to join, and both mitochondrial DNA and autosomal DNA results can be added to the project. This will allow anyone who is interested in this project to receive the project status updates which will be sent out intermittently via bulk email. Whilst mtDNA and atDNA are welcome, the main focus of any analysis will be on Y-DNA and what this tells us about your own particular CALDWELL ancestors, where they came from, and who they are related to within the group. To join the project simply click on the JOIN button in the photo above, and follow the simple instructions.
