To help find family connections for the GILPINs of all spelling and variations. By joining the group you agree to provide the project with 3 things.
1) The surname of the person being tested.
2) The name, date and place of birth of the oldest researched male ancestor of your male patrilineal line and the oldest researched female ancestor of your matrilineal line.
3) Permission to publish the DNA results and the names, dates and places of birth of the oldest known patrilineal or matrilineal ancestor.
Normally a surname as unusual as Gilpin would originate from one source but not with the Gilpin surname, as has been proven by OUR Y-DNA project. WE are looking at the different origins it may have come from.

Family researchers have been gathering information and compiling their genealogies diligently for years. You may be among the few who are able to trace your earliest ancestor back to England, or Ireland, or Scotland and or France. Or, like most, you may be searching to find that illusive, missing link to the past.
As a Family researcher you have probably reached a point where you cannot identify any earlier ancestors. You may have documented multiple generations, but, at some point the leads dwindle and the trail grows cold. You have reached the preverbal brick wall. We know that more documentary evidence remains to be discovered however traditional genealogical research will most likely never find all the connections between the various Family groups or different spellings. Until recently there was little hope of extending a cold chart, however, genealogical DNA testing may provide the answers you are seeking.
So, whether you have a complete family history leading back to a Family in England, Ireland, or where ever, or you are just starting to chart your ancestors, we hope you will consider joining us.
This program is not to prove all spellings are / were one family, but to help prove what families do genetically connect to each other.
Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
