Description
Welcome to the Moore Y DNA Project!
BEFORE REQUESTING TO JOIN... YOU MUST 1) HAVE A Y-TESTED KIT; 2) EITHER BE A MOORE, OR BE AWARE OF A MOORE NPE EVENT IN THE TREE; AND/OR 3) HAVE TESTED TO AT LEAST Y-111 AND BE A RELATIVELY CLOSE MATCH TO MORE MOORE TEST-TAKERS.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BEFORE REQUESTING TO JOIN.
As stated above, to join this project you MUST have taken a Y DNA test with FTDNA. A transfer of tests is not possible as most others (Ancestry, 23andMe, etc.) are for Autosomal DNA, not Y DNA. While 23andMe will give you a basic read of Y, it is at a low level and will not transfer.
This surname project includes results from Y DNA tests, grouped by haplogroups and subclades, as opposed to grouping by STRs.
If you wish to join you MUST have a FTDNA kit with results for a Y DNA test. If you have only tested using the FTDNA Family Finder test (autosomal DNA) or a mtDNA test, you will not be able to join. In this case, however, you are encouraged to obtain permission to test a male Moore, Muir, etc. family member, and once you have results, with kit administrator status, you can request to join the project.
To join, click the "Join" button located at the upper right portion of this page. Requests will be reviewed prior to approval. In your request to join, please note which test you have taken (Y-37, Y-67, Y-111, or Big Y-700).
Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
