Project Surnames:
| Blancpain | Weisbrod | Weisbrot | Wheatbread | | Whitbread | Whitebread | Wyssbrod |
Project Background: | The Whit(e)bread DNA Project is open to anyone interested in discovering more about the relationships and origins of the various families bearing the name. The project is an extension to the existing One-Name Study for Whitebread, Whitbread and Wheatbread. Information on this study can be found on the Guild of One-Name Studies web site: http://www.one-name.org/profiles/whitebread.html |
Project Goals: The main aim of the project is to discover which families have a common ancestor and how many separate lineages there are.
Examples of the questions we would like to answer:
1. Are all Bedfordshire (UK) Whitbread families related and how long ago did each one separate?
2. Are the Essex Whitbreads related to the Bedfordshire families?
3. How are the different Kentish Whitebread families related and did they all originate in Sussex?
4. From which of these UK families do families now living in other countries descend?
5. Are the US Whitebreads of German ancestry (originally Weisbrod) at all related to the UK families?
You must be male to take this simple cheek swab test, and you should bear one of the surnames shown or a variant of these, or if you have another name, you have evidence that your direct male line originally had this name.
We encourage males who order a Y DNA test to order 37 markers, if possible, as this gives more information and allows different family branches to be identified. If you order fewer markers (i.e. 12 or 25), you can upgrade later, though this costs a little more.
For more information, or to join and order kits, please go to the project web site: https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=V76245&special=True&projecttype=S |
Project News:
New member results representing families from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire are now available. So far no matches have been found, suggesting independent lines. We would like to encourage more people to participate, both from these areas and others, such as Essex and Wiltshire, to help map out the different lines.
We have established a General Fund, to accept donations in any currency via credit card. These funds will be held at the testing company, and used to help sponsor test kits for those key males who would otherwise be unable to afford the cost of participation in the project. We encourage you to make a donation. To make a donation please click on the last link on the left, entitled "Contribute to the Surname Project General Fund". If you decide to donate, please specify "Whitebread Project General Fund" in the top box of the Donation form.
The DNA test results contain no personal information, and you will match or be a close match to those to whom you are related. This is an opportunity to learn more about your origins and ancestry.
Order your test kit TODAY!!! Click on the Join link on the top in the blue sidebar on the left, labeled "Request to Join this Group". |
DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members * Haplogroups in green have been
confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have
been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the
individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease
and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for
ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then
we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the
kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider
ordering a SNP confirmation test.
