Background
The "van Zeeland" Surname DNA Project is open to all males with the surname "van Zeeland". The male "Y" chromosome is passed from father to son unchanged (except for a mutation about once every 200 years). The test of your "Y" chromosome DNA will provide you with a genetic fingerprint. This genetic fingerprint will consist of a series of 12, 25 or 37 numbers depending upon the size of the test you choose. By comparing your genetic fingerprint to others with the surname "van Zeeland" you will be able to determine if you are related. Females born with the "van Zeeland" surname and those males with maternal "van Zeeland" lines will be able to accomplish this by enlisting the cooperation of their male "van Zeeland" relatives
