Please see the "Y Results" Page. Until now, 10 distinct clusters have been identified. The haplotypes within each cluster are genetically close enough, so that they share a common ancestor within a genealogically relevant time frame, i.e., since the introduction of surnames. In other words, so far 10 Unique Founder Events of the surname "Schweitzer" have been identified.
Since the family name "Schweitzer" means "a person from Switzerland," one can draw the following conclusions: (a) the patrilinear ancestor lived at some time point between the years of 900 and 1100, that is the time period when surnames were assigned in cities in most of central Europe, in Southern Germany and (b) the patrilinear ancestor lived at some time point between the years of 800 and 1000 in Switzerland.
