Project News
As of August 6, 2009 there are 102 members in the Stone DNA Surname Project, of which 98 have received their test results; four are pending.
** We have added the Haplogroup designations to the groups. Haplogroup "I" has origins from northwestern Europe, hence Vikings. Haplogroup "R1b" is western Europe. The groups that have taken the SNP test are marked as confirmed. Groups that have designations without the SNP test are marked as suggested.
** We now have a Stone General Fund. If you want to contribute to the Stone General Fund, click on the link to the left. You can contribute via credit card, PayPal, or check.
** We have combined groups that matched within the genetic distance guidelines of FamilyTreeDNA. For instance, in group #11 there are several matches, so we combined them into groups #11-A and #11-B and #11-C and #11-D,etc. thereby keeping the genealogy data separate, yet showing that they are connected genetically within one group.
** In Stone Group #2, there are two matches which resulted in pushing back their Stones another generation.
** In Stone Group #4, the test results revealed that the two Stone lines in Chester Co. and Fairfield Co. SC (Stone Group #2), are two distinct groups of Stones that are in close proximity of each other over the county lines between these two counties. That has settled a decades old question about whether these two Stone families were related.
