Family Historian Fred Staples compiled over 21,000 names within various lineages of descendants of the Peter Staple and about 15,000 names in various Staples lineages as yet not connected to a common ancestor.
BACKGROUND
PETER STAPLE, [Yeoman] Piscataqua Pioneer, born say c1642, d. 1718/19; settled by at least 1671 on the bank of the Piscataqua River at Long Reach in Kittery, what is now Eliot, Maine and married the widow Elizabeth (Beadle) Edwards c1641-c1736. Elizabeth was the dau. of Robert Beadle and Mary, some say Bailey. Peter and Elizabeth raised three recorded sons -
i Peter Staple (jr), [Carpenter] b. aft 1670 Kittery, d. Dec 17, 1721, Kittery; m. 8 Jan 1694/95, Kittery, Mary Lang, b 1678, Eight Children.
ii John Staple, [Carpenter] b. c 1677, (+/- 60 in 1737, “GDM&NH” p656) Kittery; Will, 21 Nov. 1744–16 July 1745. m. 1695/96, Kittery, Mary Dixon, Eleven Children.
iii James Staple, [Tailor] b. c 1678, Kittery; d.1725, aged 47 in Kittery; m. 15 Apr 1701, Kittery, Mary Tetherly, Eight Children.
The book of 'York County Deeds' tells us that through his purchases of land he was a man with substantial financial means probably from inheritance and/or sale of a family farm. His use of land tells us that Peter was experienced in farming crops, raising farm animals and cultivation of timber for sale.
Currently there is no primary or secondary information connecting Peter Staple (c1642-1719) to his parents or siblings. Family tradition involving the ancestry of Peter Staple (c1642-1719) from the mid 1800s, by family historians and genealogists, suggested that Peter Staple was directly related to other New England Staple/s families, Jeffrey, John, Samuel Staple of Weymouth, Massachusetts and Thomas Staple of Fairfield, Connecticut.
Genetic test results of participants within the various SSDP Family Groups prove that the family groups have not shared a genetic relationship during the surname era. See the Staples Surname & DNA Project (SSDP), http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~staplessurname/ .
**This information tells us that there is no genealogical relationship between the male members of these New England families during the surname era.
According to colonial probate records, the great-grandson of Peter Staple 1> (Peter Staple Jr.2 > Capt Peter Staple3> Peter Staple4) was denied his inheritance when his father Capt Peter died on 01 July 1768. The colonial court decreed the estate of Capt. Peter insolvent due to debts. Peter4, through an attorney in Feb 1769 appealed his case to the supreme probate court in England, the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PPC) involved with cases involving estates of English subjects living overseas. The result is that Peter4 won his inheritance case.

**This information tells us the families of Peter Staple (c1642-1719) were English subjects.
Boyd's Marriage Index (BMI) from 1538 to 1650 lists a total of 146 marriages in England with the surname Staple taking place only in counties south of the Humber. From 1651-1670 lists a total of 128 marriages with 3 taking place north of the Humber in Yorkshire.
**This information tells us that the ancestral home of Peter Staple (c1642-1719) was in England, south of the Humber.
