Project Background, Goals, Results and News are copyright of the specific Surname Project Project News: November 2005: The Presley-Pressley Y-DNA Project welcomed its first participant from a location other than North America! Kit # 47877 belongs to a member of the PRESSLY family from Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
May 2006: An adopted participant of another surname, hoping to identify his biological family, was found to share the Y-DNA of the Pressley family. Congratulations!
July 2006:
The Presley-Pressley DNA Project welcomes its first MtDNA participant!
September 2006:
A group of descendants from the WILSON family are found to share the Y-DNA of the Pressley family from South Carolina. A change in the paternal surname of Pressley to the maternal surname of Wilson occurred in 1880, according to census records. (Wow!)
November 2007:
The Presley-Pressley Y-DNA Project,to date, finds the overwhelming majority of participants to be from the southern U.S. states. This month we welcomed a Y-DNA participant from the PRESSLER family of Pennsylvania who has no known southern U.S. connections. This participant's results were found to match the southern U.S. lines of the Presley (Preslar, Pressley) family in 35 out of 37 markers. This is a significant event as it may help our project to trace its origins outside the United States, as some Pressler lines are known to be of German origin. | Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd. August 20, 2005: There are 20 DNA sampling kits ordered and 14 have been returned for testing. There are no results as of this date.
August 31, 2005: There are 22 DNA sampling kits ordered and 16 have been returned. There are results back for two of the samples.
September 9, 2005: There are 23 DNA sampling kits ordered and 18 have been returned. There are results back for three of the samples.
September 22, 2005: There are 25 DNA sampling kits ordered and 20 kits have been returned. There are results back for 3 samples. The results for another 12 samples should return within the next week.
October 9, 2005: There are 27 sampling kits ordered and 22 kits have been returned. Results are posted for 11 of the 22 kits which have been returned. The next batch of results is due 10/15, give or take a few days. The results have so far yielded two groups of identical (12 out of 12) matching markers.
The first group has 5 indivudals who share identical marker results.
The second group has 2 individuals who share identical marker results.
There are 2 individuals who match each other at 11 out of 12 markers, (a distance of one.)
There are 4 indivudals who do not yet have an identical match with the other results in the project.
Ten out of the 11 results are suggested to be the R1B Haplotype. The remaining result is suggested to be the J2 Haplotype.
November 30, 2005
The Presley Y-DNA Project has 32 members. The number of kits returned is 29 and there are results back for 27 of those kits. Our project now has two confirmed Haplogroup results. Kit 42551 and Kit# 40733 are confirmed to be Haplogroup R1B.
July 2006
The Presley Y-DNA Project is one year old. There are 40 participants. Of these 40 participants two individuals are waiting for their Y-DNA results. Sixteen individuals, or 40% of the participants, have refined their Y-DNA marker results to 25 or 37 markers. Two individuals have confirmed their Haplogroups as R1B1 through SNP testing. The predicted Haplogroup for 99.9% of the participants is either R1B or R1B1.
October 2006:
The Presley-Pressley Y-DNA Project has 44 participants. Two individuals are awaiting results.
There are four distinct ancestral groups among the 42 known results. The results for 17 of the 42 participants (or 40%) indicate a common male ancestor. Each participant of the four distinct groups is predicted to fall in Haplogroup R1b or R1b1.
One individual has refined his Y-DNA markers to 67.
October 2007:
The Presley-Pressley Y-DNA Project welcomes its 50th participant.
February 2008
The Presley-Pressley Y-DNA Project has 56 Y-DNA participants and one MtDNA participant. There are 11 different surnames represented. There are two results outstanding (4%). Of these 56 Y-DNA participants, there are four distinct groups. The largest of those groups represents 43% of the participants who share identically matching results. The second group represents 18% of the participants; the third group 13% and the fourth group 4%. A separate group of 19% do not yet share results with other individuals within the group of participants. | Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.
