We learned that our haplogroup is E3b. This haplogroup is believed to have evolved in the Middle East. It expanded into the Mediterranean during the Pleistocene Neolithic expansion. It is currently distributed around the Mediterranean, southern Europe, and in north and east Africa.
A big surprise for our project was exact 12/12 marker matches with four different surname groups here in America. All are families of southern US origin. They were equally surprised to learn they had exact 12/12 matches with a family from the Philippines.
One speculation is that we may share common ancestors among the soldiers, sailors, and citizens that the Spanish abandoned in southeast US when their empire collapsed.
There are also 11 more exact 12/12 marker matches; England - 1, France - 2, Germany - 2, Ireland - 1, and 5 of unknown origin. Their identities are unknown because they have been tested by a separate lab.
Additionally there is one 24/25 match with an unkown person.
