Project Goals
We wish to give Oglethorpes of every background and nationality worldwide an opportunity to discover their early roots, and an opportunity to see whether or not they might be related to others who bear the Oglethorpe or Osgathorpe surname. We assume that Osgatharp is a distinct surname, but we need at least one Osgathorpe / Osgatharp descendant to verify this assumption. The 12 Marker Test should be sufficient to meet this goal. If over time the Osgatharp surname proves to be unrelated then it could be spun off to a separate DNA Project. Of course, to participate directly in this project, you must be a Oglethorpe or Osgatharp male, or spelling variants thereof. But we will make major conclusions from the project available to everyone regardless of surname. The privacy of individuals will be protected.
