Project Background
My maiden name is Nancy Obermiller and I decided to start this DNA project for people named Obermiller, or any variation of that name. I live in the state of Colorado in the USA and I am an enthusiastic amateur genealogist. Over the past year, I have become involved in several DNA projects and I am very excited about the possibilities of genetic genealogy.
My immigrant ancestor was August Obermiller who was born in Baden, Germany in 1815. August was the son of Theodore Obermiller and Harriet Sachs and he graduated from Heidelberg University on 30 June 1844. He was a physician. August married Maria Justina Unterreiner and immigrated to the USA in 1846 on the ship “London”, which had departed from Bremen, Germany. August and Justina settled in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.
I would like to discover whether or not all Obermillers are related. I would like to make contact with cousins and trace my Obermiller line farther back in time. If you are an Obermiller male or any variation of that name, either here in the USA or in Europe, I hope you will consider joining this DNA project and getting your DNA tested.
