Project Background: Warning. The Google Translator may prevent the Google Map from working. IntroductionmtDNA Haplogroup H is a Eurasian Haplogroup. It is believed to make up 40-50% of the mtDNA lineages in Western Europe, but becomes less common as you travel east. Much of the research of Human mtDNA in Europe only compares mutations in the HVR1 and HVR2 control regions, a smaller but more rapidly changing portion of the mtDNA molecule, which provides a false feeling of sameness to the members of the many H subgroups, or clades. The primary goal of this project is to explore the individual identity of each subclade. Altogether, the mtDNA Haplogroup H project has more than 2000 members, making it the largest public mtDNA Haplogroup project. Goals- To educate members of this highly successful mtDNA Clade about their shared heritage.
- To build a sense of community among H Clade members.
- To support the efforts of H Subclade groups.
- To recognize population clusters in the Clade and Subclades.
MembershipThe H mtDNA Project is open to all but we do ask members to send us their paper trail pedigree for their mtDNA line. Here is an example:

From your user page look for the small link at the bottom that says 'learn more.' Clicking on that link will take you through the transfer process. You should then be able to join with your new FTDNA account. NewsLaura Hayden stepping awayLaura Hayden will be away from the H mtDNA Project and DNA Genealogy for the next year as she focuses on finishing her degree. Making the transition to the new websiteRecently we set up individual projects through FamilyTreeDNA for subclades H1-H11, H13-H15, H16, HV and HV1 and have transferred each member — and are in the process of transferring new members or those with new results -- to the appropriate project. The original mtDNA Haplogroup H Project will remain for those who either haven't done the mt-H or full sequence testing, or for those whose subclade is as yet unidentified (H*). However, although these projects are separate at FTDNA, all Hs will continue to remain as one project at the new website that Rebekah has created. Tracing Helena's DaughtersWe will no longer be posting updates to the FreeWebs-hosted site; as each subclade page at the new site is brought up to date, we'll take its corresponding page offline at the old one. Also, outside joins who've tested with other labs can find their results on the Member Test Results chart as well as on their respective subclade pages. | Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.
