Background

and GOAL. April 16/2012.

Veuillez noter: Nous sommes en train de traduire ce document en français.
Please note: We are currently in the process of translating this document into French.

In what follows, 'Mius' is used in place of all the variations on that name, notably, 'Muise' and 'Meuse'.

The goal of this project (study group) is to determine the ancestors of Philippe Mius d'Entremont and Madeleine Hélie thru Y-DNA testing in combination with traditional genealogical approaches.

Achieving this goal is a two-step process:

1) Determine the genetic (i.e. Y-DNA) signature of the Acadian Mius-d'Entremonts whose verified paper trails lead back to Philippe.
2) Find non-Acadian (probably European) Mius-d'Entremonts whose genetic signature matches that of the Acadians and whose verified paper trails go back to a common
ancestor of both them and the Acadians.  Hopefully, the circumstances of these non-Acadians and their knowledge of family history will help us to find the said ancestors of
Philippe. No non-Acadian matches have been found yet. It must be admitted here that the probability of finding such matches is low, but not zero.

As part of step number one above, we are presently searching for one descendant in the paternal line back to Joseph d'Entremont, and one descendant in the paternal line back to Paul d'Entremont. Joseph and Paul are two of the sons of Jacques II d'Entremont, and great-grandsons of Philippe, and we wish to offer to the two descendants a Y-DNA test done thru the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) testing company, and paid for from the project fund. These participants would automatically become members of this project as well as the 'French Heritage DNA Project'.

If you are such a descendant, and think you may be interested, please contact us at clarkr2@hotmail.com , with your lineage back to Philippe via Joseph and Paul. We'll then send you more details on the test, so that you can make a decision whether or not to go for it. These details will include the names and addresses of two people whose tests we have already paid for as part of the project, in case you might wish to use them as references.

Otherwise:
- if you are a descendant in the paternal line back to Philippe but not a descendant of the above two (i.e. Joseph and Paul), and wish to be tested at your own expense and
  join the project, or
- if you are a descendant in the paternal line back to Philippe and have already been tested and wish to join the project (no cost),
then kindly click on 'Join Request' in the dark bar above and follow the instructions.

Attention:  If you belong to a project, you are accorded a discount on your test by FTDNA. Example: 12 marker test for project members: $99 US. For non-project members: $149 US..

Here's an example of what is meant by the 'Mius-d'Entremont paternal line': supposing you are a Mius or a d'Entremont male, then your Mius or d'Entremont paternal line would be:  you, your father, your father's father, your father's father's father, etc., etc. all the way back thru the line of fathers to Philippe. Paternal lines can also be called 'Y-DNA lines'. People of a given paternal line usually, but not always, share the same or a similar family name across the generations

Please note: the DNA sample for the test is obtained thru swiping the inside of the mouth with a cotton swab, which feels like rubbing with a tooth-brush.

Not all is given here in order to keep this 'introduction' as brief as possible. For more back-ground on the project, a simplified  summary of it's results, acknowledgement of advisors who have helped us with it, and people who have inspired us thru their own work, kindly click on 'About This Group' in the dark bar above, then click on 'News'.

For details on the results, including  haplogroups and haplotypes (marker values), click on 'Y-DNA results' in the dark bar above.

The administrator of this project, and those who assist him are not employees of Family tree DNA (FTDNA) , and thus do not receive any monetary or other compensation from FTDNA for promoting and engaging in this project. Rather, we are simply volunteers seeking information about our ancestors.

Please note: There is a discussion forum in the Facebook 'Family Name d'Entremont' group of Pauline d'Entremont:
Thus if you have questions or info to share on this family, genealogical or not, this is the place for it.

A final comment: DNA testing can unravel the fascinating story of not only our immediate ancestors but that of much more remote ones.
