Mennonite (Anabaptist) DNA Project

Results

As of 29 Nov '05:
There are now 84 participants in the project. Results received so far are listed below.

Very interesting that the Penner (18) results received is part of the E3b Haplogroup - most likely indicating a Mediterranean origin (possibly before recorded history). This is the largest surname group of the project thus far.

Braun (4) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of Haplogroup I (which is thought to be indicative of NW European ancestry and possibly Scandinavian).

Bricker (3) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of Haplogroup R1b (most common Western European group).

Dyck (3) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of Haplogroup R1b (most common Western European group).

Epp (3) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of Haplogroup R1b (most common Western European group) and R1a (Scandinavian and/or Eastern European).

Fehr (2) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of Haplogroup I (which is thought to be indicative of NW European ancestry and possibly Scandinavian).

Froese (3) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of most likely Haplogroup R1b (most common Western European group).

Janzen (2) Y-DNA results so far are of the J2 Haplogroup (also Mediterranean), but not to be confused with the J2 Haplogroup of mtDNA (maternal).

Landis (4) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of Haplogroup I (which is thought to be indicative of NW European ancestry and possibly Scandinavian).

Miller (3) Y-DNA results are split between J2 and R1b.

Schroeder (4) Y-DNA results are currently split - 1 is R1b, while the other 2 results are most likely R1a (Scandinavian and/or Eastern European). (Awaiting results on the 4th participant.)

Wiens (2) Y-DNA results are showing a pattern of Haplogroup I (which is thought to be indicative of NW European ancestry and possibly Scandinavian).

Other individuals have been tested, but we don't yet have a 2nd person for each of those surnames with which to compare. Please sign up today and be a part of the project! :)

Currently, there are nine (9) mtDNA (maternal line) participants. Haplogroups returned are J2 (Mediterranean/Near Eastern), J* (Near Eastern), K (Central/Eastern European), and H (Western European).
