Looker / Luker Surname Project- Background

Background

The first two project members (a Looker and a Luker) were tested in 2006. Both family lines resided in NJ in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, but a connection could not be documented. Test results showed that the DNA results of these two individuals were significantly different: only 11 markers out of 37 matched.

This project is seeking families with the LOOKER, LUCRE and LUKER surnames that resided in the New York City and New Jersey areas (Orange & Essex Cos. thus far) of the U.S. during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The primary project goal is to determine if these surname lines are related genetically. And, if so, to narrow the pool of common ancestors in order to untangle the many families with these surnames.
