Background

~~~~~Exploring the Mysteries - Exploding the Myths~~~~~
Welcome to the DNA Project for Lay, Ley, Leay, Loy, Leh, Leigh, and DeLay. We are using DNA to further our understanding and genealogical research of Lay family history for all Lay lineages including the variant spellings.
*Our Project is global. Lay's are located throughout the United States, Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, and Switzerland. We invite all Lay's to participate and represent their family tree.*Participation by our current testers has already provided success stories and exciting news about Lay origins. DNA is taking us where the paper trail can't. We are breaking down our research brick walls with sometimes surprising results. Not all Jesse's are genetically related. There are two non-related Bird Lay's. Not all Wiltshire, England Lay's share a common ancestor.
*Please click the Request to Join button in the upper left-hand corner of this page to order your Kit. Pricing and payment options will also be explained. Special pricing is given when ordering through this surname project site. I encourage testers to order the 37 marker test to provide the most accurate results of finding the most recent common Lay ancestor between testers.
*Only males carrying the name of Lay can test. A Y-DNA test kit will only provide Y-DNA information on your outside paternal line. If your Lay ancestry was introduced through a female Lay a Y-DNA test will not identify your Lay ancestry. Females wishing to test their male Lay line need to ask a brother, uncle, father, or appropriate male Lay cousin.
*If you are not eligible to take the the test but would like to help keep the Lay DNA project a success, please consider contributing to the Lay DNA project fund. Funds are used solely to provide scholarships for the project. Please use the link on the upper left hand side of this message.
*Lineages of our participants, the Y-DNA result table, and current analysis regarding our Project can be found by clicking on the tabs across the top and the links along the upper-left sidebars of this screen. An email group has been organized to discuss Lay Family lineage as it pertains to the Lay DNA project and keep abreast of new items. You do not have to be a tester to join the email group. Please contact the group administrator to join the email group.
*My name is Cynthia Wells and I am very enthusiastic about this Project and working with Lay testers and researchers as Lay DNA Group Administrator. My husband descends from the Caswell Co., NC Lay's. I am a member of ISOGG [International Society of Genetic Genealogists] and their regional coordinator/speaker for the Western and Piedmont areas of North Carolina.
*The National Geographic Society has created the Genographic Project. Family Tree DNA is among other DNA testing companies helping National Geographic with the worldwide testing. As a participant tester you have the opportunity to add your test results through your personal FTDNA page to this important project that will study the genetic migration of mankind.
