Project Goals
Project Objectives: We want to connect the (Janse(n)) Van Rensburg families in South Africa to our unknown ancestors in Europe (and confirm that we are related). Claas Jansz, our progenitor in South Africa, is thought to have been born in Rendsburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. We would like to verify the geographical origins, by matching our DNA results with that of people currently living in Europe.
The tests we are currently engaged in is Y-DNA testing, only available for male members of the family. The results are a set of markers (allowing the results to be matched to those of others), plus a haplogroup, which defines the origin of the subject's ancestors.
We prefer to use 37-marker test results, as it gives reliable results within 7 generations, and Claas Jansz migrated to South Africa about 9-10 generations ago (about 1708). This will also verify that all (Janse(n)) Van Rensburgs in South Africa are related.
