Hendricks DNA Project News/Summary for 09/19/2009

Summary

During the past year The Hendricks DNA project has grown to 118 members whose DNA results are posted. One additional kit is in the laboratory, and one kit has been mailed to a new participant.

1. Pamunkey (VA) Hendrick Haplogroup I1d. DNA profile has been established from Eight DNA participants that have matched to this group (37 markers). Deep Clade results indicate Nordic possible routing to Dutch location per Ben Hendrick.
2. Frontier Hendricks Nordic Haplogroup I2b1. A branch of the family has been identified in the Two Mile Creek, Spartanburg District, SC. Also Isaac Hendrix group that went into Franklin Co., GA. DNA profile Established. We now have 13 Frontier Hendricks with 37 marker results which has identified three sons of Albertus Hendrixson, Johannes (7), Jacobus (2) and Tobias (2) We have three DNA participants with identical DNA profiles who are descended from 1) Albertus, 2) Johannes m Rebecca. We recently identified two people who have researched lineages from the Lexington, SC Hendrix who are descended from Albertus’ son Tobias. This is the line Albertus, Tobias, Henry, Tobias line. More work needs to be done on their researched lineages as both of these Lexington Hendrix show lineages from Tobias Hendricks m Margaret Sprenckel’s sons.
3. Daniel Hendrick of MA Nordic Haplogroup I1. The group consists of Nine DNA participants who all share the very rare DYS392 10.2 marker. This marker is recorded in the FTDNA database as 11. Two additional descendants with DYS392 10.2 are found in the Sorenson Molecular Genealogical Foundation (SMGF) database. What has proven most interesting in the inclusion of two well documented Westmoreland County Hendricks families that include descendants connecting to the Gov. William Hendricks of IN and V.P. Thomas A. Hendricks of IN to this group. The DNA testing has shown once again to be powerful and of course shows that the Gov. and V. P above are Daniel Hendrick descendant rather than Frontier Hendricks as previously believed.
4. Daniel Hendrick Sr. of Bertie Co., NC descendants, Jabesh Hendricks of NC, to Edgefield Co., SC to Bullock Co., GA does not match Albemarle Hendricks participant. Based on DNA evidence Daniel Hendricks Sr. of Bertie Co., NC is a descendant of Daniel Hendrick (born ca 1615) of Haverhill Massachusetts.
5. Albemarle Hendricks group in Eastern NC, Haplogroup R1b1b2. The Albemarle NC Hendricks family is a close DNA match to descendants of William Hendricks of Wallingford Connecticut.
6. Moses Hendricks m Susanna of SC Haplogroup R1a1, and not Frontier Hendricks. The DNA Profile is established with four participants tested at FTDNA and one tested at Relative Genetics. All five relatives have an excellent match to prove Moses Hendricks m Susanna’s DNA profile; three of the five had identical DNA profiles.
7. James Hendricks m Jane? of SC Haplogroup R1b1b2, and not Frontier Hendricks. DNA Profile Established with 7 participants.
9. Newberry County/District SC Hendricks before 1800 all four groups identified via DNA. Searching to identify another group found there shortly after 1800; Garrett Hendrick wife Ruth Plunkett Hendrick Family. HDH Note: This is not the old Garrett Hendrix wife Mary who died 1823 in Union Co., SC at age 107 years.
10. The Lexington Co., SC Hendricks’ tested to date have matched to Frontier Hendricks per Dr. J. S. Davenports’ research conclusions in Frontier Hendricks. Another DNA participant 37994 has K-2 Haplotype from Lexington, SC. The Frontier Hendricks Group in Lexington was thought to be based entirely on the ancestors of Tobias Hendricks m Margaret Sprenckel. DNA Results show this Tobias Hendricks m Margaret Sprenckel group to be Frontier Hendricks. However as discussed above in Frontier Hendricks a distance in DYS#s of 4 seems to be too far removed for both the participants to be sons of Tobias Hendricks m Margaret Sprenckel. Two other groups of Hendricks out of Lexington remain to be identified.
11. Henry Hendricks Haplogroup I2a1. This family group has grown to 9 DNA participants. The DNA results indicated that the family has one branch that is defined by the DYS 464 motif of 11-11-14-14 from the main branch of the family being 11-14-14-14.
12. There are two participants in Haplogroup J2. The DNA results do not indicate a common family. One participant is found in Haplogroup N.
13. Haplogroup T. There are three families in the group; Henry Hendrix m Martha Marbut of Newberry, SC; Archibald Hendrix of Lexington, SC; and Adam Admire Hendricks. At present a common ancestor has not been identified for this family group.
14. There are four DNA participants whose lineage was first reported to be that of Gov. William Hendricks of IN. Note the Hendricks Group’s containing documentation on Gov. William Hendricks does not match to the Frontier Hendricks lineage. Dorothy Lloyd Wright, Marilyn Coalla and others of the Hendricks Family.
