Background

The Gunnell Family Genes Project is a Surname DNA project to help us sort out if there is a common line or several lines with the name variations.  We are just beginning this surname project in July 2011 and invite members to test their dna and select this project. Initially, we aim to identify groups of matching Y-DNA and unique haplotypes (family lines) and let them compare their tree information. Database size matters; it increases your chances of finding a match within the project. So encourage your possible cousins to participate.

Membership Policy: Gunnell Family Genes is open to prospective members. If you believe that your family history may be advanced by participating in our project, you are welcome. Though we focus on Gunnell, Gunnels, Gunnells-surname lines, we can have members who may be biological Gunnell but do not carry the surname, and others named Gunnell whose ancestors may have had other names.  There may also be others who have names that could be related to this such as Grinnell, Grunnals, etc.

We are seeking male Gunnell, Gunnels, Gunnells for Y-DNA (Y-STR) testing.  If you wish to join and participate in the Gunnell project, click on the above Joint Request link on this page or go to Join Gunnell project   You may order your kit from our page and when you do we should be notified of your intent.  You may contact the administrator with questions. You may also order your kit from FTDNA and then select the Gunnell project.

Gunnell Family Genes Project is available to you as an extension of your genealogy research and may help to overome brick walls and false leads. DNA testing is now a proven tool for genealogists and can provide a means of connecting Gunnell, Gunnels, Gunnells worldwide. With the use of DNA testing, we hope you will be able to create matches with traditional paper trail genealogical records to connect with others of the same DNA results (haplotypes).
