01/08/07 - Total available....$100

Project Background:
The Goins DNA Project is for all who wish to work together to find their common heritage through DNA testing and sharing of information. All variant spellings are welcome.

In the Goins Project, there are at least 21 different spelling of the name Going, Gowen etc.

All cousins, plus present and former members of the Gowen Research Foundation of Lubbock, Texas are invited to participate.

Please note that The Project Manager is a volunteer and does not receive compensation of any kind.

Project Goals:
To see the relationship with the different Goins/many spellings, if any exists. Or to help group the Goins together with DNA matches.

By setting up a Family Reconstruction Project at Family Tree DNA, the Goins DNA Project Group is taking advantage of a substantial group discount. It also allows us access to the test results, so we can see whether each of the lines is related (or not related) to one another. At this time, participants may start with either the Y-DNA 12-marker test, which costs $99+ $2 shipping fee or the 25 marker tests which costs $169 plus $2 shipping or the full 37 marker panel which costs $219+ $2 shipping fee. If you start with 12 and upgrade to 25 markers later, it will incur an additional $90 fee. So by ordering the 25 marker test initially, you save $21. Upgrading from 25 to 37 markers costs $59.00 more. If ordered initially an additional savings of about $10.00 is realized

Sometimes testing our own Y or mtDNA will not get us back to the fore-parent whose test we need. If you can't be tested for a known Goins line, you can help by donating money to help those who can be tested. Go here for further information

DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members

* Haplogroups in green have been confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider ordering a SNP confirmation test.
