Project Background: | With so many Fish surnames and variants around the world, we are hoping to at least connect a few of these lines using DNA technology and hopefully find a few answers to many of our brickwalls in genealogy research! |
Project Goals: The primary goal of this project is to establish a “reference library” of the markers of known Fish lineages, against which any Fish can compare their marker information to determine which line they are related. Since individuals that share the same marker patterns and similar surnames also share a common ancestor, this information allows the researcher to quickly focus on one group of Fish and also know which Fish lines they can exclude!
See Project News section for lines that we’ve had special requests for testing. |
Project News: We especially need participants whose lines are descended from the New England Fish lines descended from Robert & Alice Fish, to see if we can distinguish this line from the lines of 3 Sandwich, Mass brothers.
Also would love Fish from Europe and elsewhere...so far none of the USA Fish have been shown to be Native American, so most of us obviously came from elsewhere in the world! |
Project Results: | 13 Sept 2007 So far we have determined 9 genetically distinct lines of Fish through our project and are aware of a 10th who tested through another company! Interestingly, the most widespread line is one that originated in colonial North Carolina! |
DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members * Haplogroups in green have been
confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have
been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the
individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease
and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for
ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then
we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the
kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider
ordering a SNP confirmation test.
