Current goals: we still need representation for some of the other main Acker lines in NY state. In particular we hope to attract participation from descendants of Dutch ancestor Wolfert Acker of Westchester County, as well as the Dutch Eckerson line. There are also numerous families from PA, TX, AL and elsewhere yet to be represented, and that we hope to see here soon. (Click on "Project Results" tab to read profiles of ancestors of current participants as well as several lineages not yet represented).

Though we seldom add entries to this Project News section, we are constantly updating this site with new profiles, links, etc. so be sure to check back every so often and browse around. We have a number of new participants recently, of various spelling variations: Eckard, Eckert, Aker, Ackor, and others.
If anyone has brief biographical details of an early or brick wall ancestor not yet portrayed in the results section, feel free to submit them to the group administrator for consideration. This page is easily accessible to anyone casually browsing for almost any variation of our surname, so whether your family is represented in our project yet or not, we'll be happy to include a brief profile. Who knows? It might encourage some descendant who stumbles upon our project for the first time to join us.
Also, please help us to grow by making any correspondents of our surname on your contact list aware of this project, and encourage them to find a representative of their family to participate.

We are pleased by the rapid growth of this project, and would like to extend our thanks to all who have participated so far.
We've received numerous queries from females of Eckhardt descent, as well as from males who descend from female branches, as to how they can participate in this project. For those who are unaware of our project's General Fund, we'd like to interject here that this is a wonderful avenue that has already been utilized successfully several times to bring new participants aboard. If you have a male relative bearing some variation of the surname and who might not have the personal means to join, a donation can be made to our General Fund (anonymously if desired)to make his participation possible. For further information about the uses of the General Fund, please contact the project administrator at jca65@aol.com.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of project participant Harold E. "Chappie" Acker who passed away last Wednesday, March 8th. As was recently done for the late Roy Acker, donations in Harold's honor can be made to our project's General Fund for the purpose of upgrading his DNA results from 12- to 37-markers.

Many thanks to those whose contributions to our General Fund made possible the upgrade (from 12- to 37-markers) of the late Roy Acker's DNA results -- a very fitting tribute to his memory.

The URL to David Stielow's site below is the first in an ever-expanding list of links to family web pages pertaining to our surname. We hope that this feature will serve not only as a research aid, but also as a means to help spread awareness about our project. Below are several to start; if anyone knows of similar sites that might be of interest, please pass them along to the group administrator (jca65@aol.com) for consideration.

We are sorry to report the recent passing (on
August 19th) of group member Roy Acker. Roy's cousin David Stielow will continue to serve as contact person for the Beekman branch of Ackers. Check out David's website which contains not only their family genealogy but also many Acker photos:

We are also saddened by the death of Mrs. Mary A. Acker on Sept. 22. Mary was the wife and mother, respectively, of group members Harold E. and David Acker.
