The East Anglia Geographic DNA Project is for anyone whose paternal (YDNA) OR maternal (mtDNA) ancestry traces to the southeast region of England, collectively known as East Anglia.
For the purposes of this project East Anglia is defined by its historical boundaries (Ref. Wikipedia East Anglia), which include the counties of Suffolk (SFK), Norfolk (NFK) and Cambridgeshire (CAM); plus northern Essex (ESS) and southeast Lincolnshire (LIN).

1. Establishing family relationships through genetic matches where surnames don't match but common geographic origin has been established (i.e. maternal lines for mtDNA matches; false paternities, out of wedlock births, etc. for YDNA matches);
2. Determining origins of geographic surnames based on East Anglian place names.
The secondary goals of the project are to further research into East Anglian deep ancestry by:
1. Mapping the distribution of project member haplotypes and haplogroups; and
2. Looking for correlations between mapped haplotype/haplogroup distributions with known or presumed Angle, Dane, Roman and/or pre-Roman population centres.
