Genetic testing is a well-established science which is now being applied to genealogical research. Participation in the Cress DNA project is open to anyone who believes he/she has a connection to the Cress surname. Connections might include such variant spellings as Kress, Crass, Grass, Graff, Graf, Gress, etc. To provide more definitive results in identifing a common ancestor, there should be at least two participants from each line and they would ideally be men from distant branches of that line. When there is a match, one can conclude there is a common ancestor between participants. When there is no match between participants, one can conclude there is no recent common ancestor for those participants.
