Project Background:
The objective of COTGR(E)AVE/COTGROVE Project is to develop a DNA Data Base that eventually includes all major branches in our Tree. We currently go back to the 1200's and have many branches with over two thousand + individuals. It will take time to develop such a Data Base, but as it is developed, it should assist Male relations submitting their DNA samples in identifying related families, and hopefully, prove much of the research done over the last 20 years. Such information should speed the efficiency of any further genealogy research, particularly where no source records exist . We invite Male COTGR(E)AVE/COTGROVE's to submit their DNA samples and to participate in our Family Project.
Female family members can help by assisting a Male member to take and share the cost of the test. |
Project Goals:
As stated, Our major goal is to confirm a link between the unconnected COTGREAVE and COTGRAVE trees and to establish where the name may have originated from.
Secondly, we wanted to see if there was a link with the COTGROVE's which speculation says there was? |
Project News:
| We now have the results of 22 tests in our database. |
Project Results:
1) It appears that there is no link with the COTGROVE's and the tests show all 4 tested are closely related and of possible Scandinavian origin.
2) Most of the COTGRAVE & COTGREAVE's are very closely related (We know for certain that several are 15 generations apart) and originate in Western Europe.
At this time we are waiting for several more test results to be evaluated. |

confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have
been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the
individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease
and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for
ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then
we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the
kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider
ordering a SNP confirmation test.
