Project Background:

This project has come from a gradual progression of desiring the knowledge of my family history. While searching frantically across the vastness of the world wide web, I discovered other Canter researchers. Thus the Canter History site at yahoo was formed and we have in excess of 300 members at this point. Now we have progressed to the point of genetic proof. DNA is the only way to show that we are really blood cousins. However with my new found Canter friends, that will not really matter.

We are awaiting the results from :

1.A descendant of James M Canter of N Carolina.
2.A descendant of William Canter, Sr. of Maryland
3. 67 marker upgrades for Mike, Patrick, and Varnie Canter.

Project Results:

There are now many matches within our group, but we need many more tests to start sub-dividing our families. There are 5 testees who are perfect 37/37 matches to each other. They follow :

5.Wesley Canter

Varnie and Wesley are paper-trail proven back to Thomas Canter 1717-1778 from Maryland.
Raymond (Ohio) descends from a Thomas Canter who moved from N.C, to Clermont Cty, Ohio about 1810.
Mike (Ohio)is descended from a John Canter ( Rev War Vet) born 1754 in Va, moved to Scioto, Ohio died 1849.
Paul ( Louisiana) is descended from Francis H Canter born 1834 Tenn.and moved to La. and Tex.
There are many more of us who are only one marker off of this line and are probably as closely related as the perfect matches.
