Bucher / Beecher / Becker / Booker / Booher / Bougher / Becher / Bicher Group

Project News

We are learning there are many unique Becker lines originating from England, Germany or central Europe and they are varied: 3 distinct lines are haplotype E, 1 is haplotype G, and 1 is haplotype I.

We've identified the many distinct Bucher lines which are listed on in the table on page bottom as well as on our research site: http://www.Searchtrees.com/dna

We've found several unique Booher lines: 1 haplotype G line related to Buchers; 1 haplotype Q line also related to Buchers; and 4 distinct haplotype R lines. We were very surprised to learn that two Booher lines long thought to be related to John Booher of PA/TN were in fact different Y-DNA. We also proved that one of the TN Booher lines is related to a 1700's PA Bucher line. (See the table at page bottom for all these families.)

We have proven there is no relationship between the Beechers arriving in CT in 1637 from England, and most Beecher families living in PA in the 1800's who are now believed to be of German origin from Bücher or Buecher ancestors. The English Beechers are haplotype R and not like the PA Beechers (type I).

However, our tests show the English CT Beechers are actually related by Y-DNA to several German Bucher lines; it appears the line moved in the 1500's from Germany to England then on to America! Some of this line adopted surname Booker in the USA.
