Background
*NOTE* Your surname does NOT have to be on the above list in order to join this group! This is just a list of possible surnames. It is NOT complete, and it does NOT mean that there are necessarily DNA results available for a surname, just because the surname is listed here. You'll need to go to the DNA results pages to see if a surname of interest to you is listed. READ THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO JOIN THIS PROJECT!!!!!!!!!!!
_____________________________________________________________________
SERIOUSLY!! READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE JOINING! PLEASE READ THIS! READ THIS COMPLETELY BEFORE JOINING! Your DIRECT paternal (Y-DNA) or DIRECT maternal ancestor (mtDNA) must have been a QUAKER. If you do not know what a Quaker is, please do not join this project. Your Quaker surname does NOT have to appear on the project's JOIN page in order to join; however YOUR QUAKER MUST BE OF KNOWN BRITISH DESCENT. Great Britain includes England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man, for the purposes of this project. It also includes early British Colonies, such as (but not limited to) Pennysylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, North Carolina, the Canadian provinces. The British Quaker DNA Project is intended to supplement, not replace, existing geographical and surname projects related to Great Britain. Members of SURNAME and other GEOGRAPHICAL projects are welcome to join our project.DIRECT for Y-DNA means that it must be a MALE who tests his Y-DNA. DIRECT paternal would be his father's father's father, etc. DIRECT for mtDNA means that either a male or female can test, but the Quaker MUST have been on the direct maternal line--your mother's mother's mother etc. REMEMBER, IN ORDER TO JOIN THIS PROJECT, YOU MUST HAVE A DIRECT PATERNAL (Y-DNA) OR DIRECT MATERNAL (MTDNA) ANCESTOR OF PROVEN QUAKER AND BRITISH ORIGIN. IT CANNOT BE ONE OR THE OTHER. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION!! You may suggest British Quaker surnames to add to the project list.

Do you have lots of Quaker ancestors, and a love of genetic genealogy, but dislike browsing many surname projects to find the haplogroup and other information for each and every Quaker ancestor? Do some of your Quakers surnames not yet even have a surname project? If so, this is the place for you! The project was formed in hopes of gathering as many Quaker surnames of Great Britain (and its former colonies) as possible in one place. The formal name for Quakers is The Religious Society of Friends.
