Boyett(e) Surname DNA Project

Project News

The Boyett(e) Surname Project was established on 8/22/04, and since its establishment 49 members have joined the project. The results for 46 tests have been received. We currently have results back for 25 Boyetts, 8 Boyettes, 4 Boytes, 3 Boyatts,2 Boyets, and 3 Boyts. FTDNA has now conducted SNP tests for all members in Group II. These results were reported on 2/01/07 and confirm that those in the Thomas Boy(e)t male line belong to haplogroup F, the proginator of most haplogroups in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, but rarely encountered today.

On 3/16/09 the Project received 37-marker results for kit 144195, a project member in England descended from Joseph Boyt (b 1790) of Wool Parish in the Dorset region of that country. Through a 34/37 match with the profile for most descendants of Thomas Boy(e)t, from whom most in the US descend, we can confirm that Thomas and his descendants are related to this line. In addition, we should note that there are direct descendants of Joseph’s line in North America through his great-grandson John Boyt (b 1864) who immigrated to the US (Iowa) in 1884.

The Project is affiliated with the Boyt/Boyett(e) One-Name study registered with the UK Guild of one-name studies.
