J-L817 Clade - Background

Background

Our project focuses on the clade of Y-DNA haplogroup J-P58 (J1c3) defined by SNP marker L817. The project was formerly known as Bnei Yahya.

In terms of Y-STR haplotypes, members of J-L817 can be distinguished from all the other J-P58 persons by the following combination of STR marker values: DYS392 at or above 13 and DYS390 at or above 24. A majority of known J-L817 clade members are likely to belong to its subclade defined by SNP marker L818.

At the next level of phylogeny, J-L818 persons, which in addition to DYS392>=13 and DYS390>=24 have the value of STR marker DYS439 between 9 and 11, are likely to be members of a subclade of J-L818 defined by SNP marker L816. Time to
the most recent common ancestor of J-L816 subclade is estimated at 1050 years before present.

For more details, please refer to our website.

Members with
L817+ confirmed and 37 or more markers tested please also consider joining Y-DNA Haplogroup J project.
