Project Surnames:Project Background: | The surname BICKHAM is not a common one, however, there are several prominent lines or families that have been researched and traced back to the 1700s or late 1600s in the Colonies. Families in Enland, of course, date back much further. It is believed that some of these more recognized BICKHAM lines may have a common, unknown ancestor. We have turned to DNA testing to confirm or disprove our beliefs, and further our genealogical research. | Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd. Project Background, Goals, Results and News are copyright of the specific Surname Project Project Results: The three participants who descend from George Washington Bickham, a son of Hugh Bickham, are an exact match. The participant who is a son of Richard Bickham of 1698 Burlington, New Jersey, is not a match with the other three participants from whom we have results. There is a difference of three markers, indicating there is not a relationship between Richard Bickham and Hugh Bickham of Logan County, Ohio.
Thus far, there is only one participant from the very large 'Southern Bickham' line, a descendant of Benjamin Bickham, one of the original five brothers. There is a difference of two digits in one marker - a slim possibility of a relationship between this line and that of Richard Bickham of Burlington, New Jersey in 1698. | Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.
