BARDES FamilyTreeDNA Project - Cheek cells needed!

Project News

October 26, 2004: To kick our project off, I am giving my father, Oliver Pape BARDES, Sr. of Naples, Florida, a DNAPlus kit for an early Christmas Present. He graciously volunteered to be our first lab-rat, and is an avid proponent of the theory that we are all French Huegenots...

November 12, 2004

We have had two international communications since our launch, both of which hold promise!
1) Marcus from Austria wrote to me about a Philip BARDES family which has roots in Eich, Germany where one known branch of our line is indeed from. Unfortunately, the last living male of that new Philip BARDES line, died about two weeks prior to our making contact. This precludes our DNA test of course, but reaffirms the need to act quickly to obtain cheek cell scrapings from BARDES males worldwide, before another line is rendered unavailable...

2) Another communication from Marine in Armenia was also received. Marine wrote:

the word Bardes or Pardes has an armenian meaning and in Armenia there are people with the surname Bardesyan also various countries who emigrated from Armenia (1800-1921)due to genocide occured in anciant Armenia.

> sincerely Marine V______________/Armenia

Marine- Thank you for writing. Gracious. Danke Shon.

Maybe we are Armenian? I have added BARDESYAN to our surname list.

BARDES DNA PROGRESS:
My dad returned his kit, and his chart is showing that the lab is working on it. It says:

Kit Received
11/4/2004

Batch 98 created
11/5/2004

DNA Isolation began
11/8/2004

DNA at Sequencing facility

Quality Control began

This is a good start! We need other BARDES males to acquire kits too. Women are welcome to participate too, but our results apparently are less simple to decipher...

ORDER CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!!! Please consider giving test kits for Christmas!! Just a few scraped cheek cells is all we need. Info on kits, is here http://www.familytreedna.com/products.html

We need to build a solid profile of our BARDES USA line to make it useful for comparison purposes.

December 3, 2004 - Hurray! Initial results are in for our first brave BARDES!
