This is the BANDY surname Y-DNA project, suitable only for MALES with fathers named BANDY, organised in association with the BANDY One-Name Study. If you are a FEMALE of BANDY descent this project is not for you, but you can pay for your father, brother or other male relative of Bandy descent to join. The One-Name Study has shown that there are a large number of BANDY lines in England, USA, Canada and Australia who are related or probably related - but in many cases we can't find the genealogical evidence to identify the link. Where genealogical evidence is lacking Y-DNA profiles can help us - if only to know that this branch is or is not related. Your personal details will not be published but will be known to Derek Bandy and to Burt Eubank if you are American both of whom will be working on the genealogical implications of any findings.

Our objective is to find out the extent to which all those who use the surname BANDY and its common variants are actually related. In particular we want to know if the various BANDY lines in the US and Canada do descend from the English BANDYs as our genealogical work indicates.

Project News:
If you don't want to have your DNA tested but still want to contribute you can send money to help other people test. The money is held by Family Tree DNA not by me, I can only ask them to spend it on DNA tests for other people. To take this option click "Contribute to the Surname Project General Fund" on this page.
If you wish to take advantage of any generous contributions we have received you must email me first (see above). Depending on the funds available I will allocate a subsidy of up to $10. This figure may change, check back here first.

* Haplogroups in green have been
confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have
been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the
individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease
and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for
ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then
we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the
kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider
ordering a SNP confirmation test.
